Ride 32 of 2013/ May 19 - 5 miles
Beautiful sunny day as I hop onto the bike…
I was heading out for a 20-25 mile ride, turned on my Garmin 810 to record it and was alerted on the Garmin that a severe thunderstorm with 70 mph winds was heading towards me. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. So I took a look on the weather radar on my phone and as predicted; a massive storm was bearing down on Madison.
I pulled off a very short but fast ride in a 5 mile loop and called it a day. People love to get down on technology, but I can’t help but feel it saved me some trouble this afternoon.

Ride 31 of 2013/ May 17 - 13 miles
It’s a friday and I’m in the twin cities getting ready for a graduation. I brought the road bike and am combining some testing with the chance to explore some of the local cycling infrastructure.
I took an hour to do a short 13 mile loop through St Paul and Minneapolis, starting in the Highland Park neighborhood of St Paul. I was blown away by the quality and amount of dedicated off street paths and lanes that link the cities. I was almost exclusively on dedicated path for my entire ride. When I was on the road, I had the chance to ride specially designated low car traffic “bicycle boulevards”.

Can’t wait to come back and ride more.

First ride of the year with an average of over 20 mph. It was either the tailwind or inspiration from seeing the Dalai Lama live in Madison this am. Decided to enjoy the weather and ride out to work. Beautiful day.
